6 Website Design Inspirations for Better Customer Experience and Conversion Rate, Especially if you’re on Shopify
Building an e-commerce website can be intimidating. With digital trends that ostensibly change every other day, the importance of a good user-friendly website for an eCommerce business cannot be overstated. Brands can not depend on their one-of-a-kind products anymore to captivate their ideal audience and turn them into customers. A well-designed website, great content, and creating avenues of communication for customers helps brands to build trust which will eventually lead to generating more business.
So, we have curated a list of features you need for a high converting website, along with brands that have nailed it with Shopify.
Why Shopify?
Shopify is a secure eCommerce platform that allows you to easily create different pages with an inbuilt editor, sell in multiple locations through the integration of local language support and customize online stores. A well-designed Shopify website helps brands attract a large audience and portray their product, in the best way possible.
1) Shopify Home page Inspiration
The homepage of your website is one of the most essential parts when it comes to your website. It often serves as the first impression for your potential customers so getting it right is crucial. Even though design, fonts, and color schemes are important components of effective website design, content is the core of a website. As soon as someone lands on your website, your homepage has to introduce your product or service and entice visitors to explore your site further, within seconds.
HiBar a plastic-free haircare brand with a mission, encapsulates the idea behind the brand, creatively, as soon as you land on their homepage. As you scroll down, the image with the bar transforms into how the product is actually supposed to be used. It is a very clever way of showing what the product is all about. HiBar products include shampoo and conditioner bars that work just as good as regular shampoos and conditioners, minus the plastic. Since it is a very niche brand with limited products, all of their products are displayed on the homepage itself. This is a great conversion tactic as customers know instantly what the brand is about and can buy the products from the homepage itself, without having to navigate too much. Right below the products is the customer reviews, which again is something potential customers always look into before buying a product. So, having them on the home page itself gives the customer more confidence to go ahead with their purchase. All in all, we love the overall design of the website. It’s simple yet impactful.
2) Collection page filters inspiration for Shopify
Sorting a website by collection is as important as having a good homepage. Grouping your products into collections will make it easier for your customers to find what they are looking for. A good layout and appearance are a must for the collections page.
Silk Laundry is a ready-to-wear clothing brand by a Canadia-Australian designer Katie Kolodinski. The brand is built upon the founding values of simplicity, classic design, and refined elegance and translates well into the website.
We found their collections page particularly fascinating as it is pleasant and the high-quality pictures help customers envision the look and feel of the products. The minimalist design of the website against the colors of the color-filled images looks amazing on the collections page. The brand allows customers to personalize their search by sorting it into price, size, color, or product. It is a great feature to have in any eCommerce store. As soon as you hover on the image it turns the lifestyle shot into a product shot which is always a great plus and the prices are clearly mentioned on the collections page itself.
3) Shopify Product Page Inspiration
The product page of any eCommerce store is what makes or breaks a sale. As a customer, what makes you buy a product when you’re shopping online? Do you read the product description or check out the customer reviews? For most people, the answer would be yes! And that’s why every point along the customer’s journey from research to purchase is important when it comes to the product page.
The brand Knix has mastered its messaging, value propositions, and general product descriptions in a way that the site resonates with their customers. Once you land on Knix’s product page, the first thing that catches your eye is the images. It is a size and skin color inclusive brand and it clearly shows on their product page. Each product is shown on different body types and comes in a wide range of colors which is great, especially now that we are in 2020!
The page is well-designed and consists of everything that makes it a good product page. The “buy now pay later” option is right on top which will help the potential customer to immediately make up their mind. The product description is very detailed and tells the customer about everything from fabric, to fit and fabric care. Upon scrolling down, the brand has very well-defined customer reviews which again reassures the customers. The product recommendations, in the end, is another cherry on top. Overall a great product page that ticks all the boxes for inspiration.
4) Shopify Cart & Checkout Inspiration
If you are an eCommerce business, you already know that over 50% of customers that visit your website, usually don’t end up buying the products in their carts. Shopping carts bridge the gap between shopping and buying, so having a well-designed shopping cart is extremely important for your website. Providing your customers with a better shopping experience during checkout may lead to better sales for your business.
TenThousand, a men’s activewear brand has an impressive add to cart and checkout process. The drawer cart slides into the screen when any product is added to the cart. This allows the customer to know what is in the cart without having to leave the page. A slide cart drawer creates a far better user experience for potential customers and is designed to increase conversions. The checkout process is also simple and user friendly. It gives the customers an option for express checkout as well via PayPal or GooglePay, an important feature to have on the checkout page. Lastly, TenThousand gives its customers a number of product suggestions while checking out. Upselling additional items right within your cart drawer is a great way to increase your average order value.
5) About page
Oftentimes eCommerce brands neglect the importance of a good “about page”. It is not just a page about your brand but it is in fact about why a customer should emotionally invest in your brand. A good about us page gives shoppers an insight into your brand and the people behind it.
MVMT, a watch and sunglasses brand is a great example of a company that portrays itself as a problem-solving brand. “We started MVMT to disrupt the overpriced and outdated models of the fashion industry” – a simple statement that will instantly resonate with a lot of people who want to look stylish on a budget. MVMT has used pictures of their co-founders in their about page which adds a personal touch and is very effective at instilling trust within the customers. Two thumbs up for their about page!
6) “Shop the look” feature
A new feature that we’ve been recently seeing in a lot of websites is the “shop the look” feature. By Charlotte, an Australian jewelry label is using this feature on its website and we love it! It is a great way of showcasing your products using a lifestyle shot, but still having it be actionable and “shoppable”.
The brand also has another unique feature which is basically a feed that pulls pictures off its Instagram account and gives you an option to shop directly. Once the customer clicks on a picture, they’ll see a “Shop Now” button, and hovering over this button will trigger a pop-up displaying the name of the featured product. If you click on it, the button will redirect you to a product page, where you can add the item into your cart. This just makes the customer’s shopping experience easier and better.
A well-designed website that is user friendly is very important, especially in the digital age as it helps you to form a good impression on your prospective customers. It is essential to provide a good user experience in order to yield more conversions.
